Project Overview
The Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre is a major redevelopment project located in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Construction is led by Smith Bros. & Wilson, began in March 2022 and is expected to be completed by 2025. The project represents the largest capital investment in the City of North Vancouver’s history.
The new facility will replace the 56-year-old existing centre, bringing modern, expanded amenities to the community. Designed with a focus on physical and mental wellness, inclusion, and accessibility, the new centre will serve as a multi-functional hub for people of all ages and abilities.
The new HJCRC will feature a 500-seat ice arena, expanded aquatic areas, fitness spaces, multipurpose rooms, and outdoor amenities such as a skate park and nature play areas. In addition to recreational facilities, the centre will also include spaces for community events, youth programs, and a new facility for the Silver Harbour Seniors' Activity Centre.
Sustainability is at the heart of this project, with a goal of reducing carbon emissions by 40% compared to the current facility. The centre will also be connected to the Lonsdale Energy Corporation’s district energy system, further enhancing its environmental credentials.
Leavitt Cranes played a pivotal role by supplying two high capacity (20-tonne) tower cranes for the project. These cranes were essential for handling large materials and efficiently managing the construction of the multi-story structure. Our cranes allowed
the construction team to lift heavy building materials safely and efficiently, contributing to the timely progress of the project.
