Project Overview
The Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project is a vital infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity between the communities of Surrey and New Westminster in British Columbia, Canada. The new bridge, designed as a four-lane cable-stayed structure, will enhance safety and accessibility for all users, including drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Key features of the new bridge include modern, wider lanes separated by a central median barrier, dedicated walking and cycling paths, and improved connections to surrounding areas. Scheduled for completion in 2025, the new bridge will replace the existing Pattullo Bridge, which will remain operational until the new bridge opens.
The project is being managed by Fraser Crossing Partners (a joint venture between Aecon and Acciona), selected by the Province of British Columbia to design, build, and partially finance the bridge. In addition to the bridge itself, the project includes constructing connecting roadways on both sides of the Fraser River, grade separations on Highway 17, and the eventual removal of the old bridge.
Leavitt Cranes is contributing to the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project by supplying a Potain MDT809 Tower Crane. Chosen for its high lifting capacity and extensive reach, the MDT809 is well-suited for managing heavy materials like steel beams and concrete segments essential to its construction. Its compact design facilitates quick setup, crucial for the urban environment, while advanced load control ensures precise and safe operations throughout the project. Although our involvement is focused, the MDT809 is playing a significant role in ensuring the project’s smooth and efficient progress.
